Guest Post- Howes That

Friday, March 30, 2012

Hi! So excited to be filling in for Anna while she's soaking up the rays in Palm Desert (lucky girl!). I've known Anna for a long time, and one of the things I admire most about her adorable style is that it is personal - she knows what she likes (Nike and elephants, duh), isn't afraid to take risks, and has fun with fashion. (This elephant shirt? Too cute for words.)

Over on HOWES THAT, I blog about personal style, be it my own, my mom's, my friend's, or someone else's entirely. (I also do some lifestyle blogging and run a weekly recipe feature called Foodie Friday if you're into that sort of thing.) Next month, I'll be heading down to Palm Springs myself for a little vacay, so I thought it only appropriate to put together a "what to do/what to wear Palm Springs styling guide" for my guest post on Freckled Fashionista. Hope you enjoy!

xx Natalie

Hi Freckled Fashionista friends!
My name is Sam and I share things about my life over here. I am honored Änna asked me to guest post for her while she is in Palm Desert! I'm also completely jealous she is seeing sun, while I'll be in a blizzard in Portland for spring break.

Anyways, I love all things fashion and when I saw Änna's post about long skirts, I knew I had share my newest purchase and a few ways I will wear it once it gets warmer. Or when I travel somewhere warmer.
My second theme of these outfits is neon+neutral!
I love the combo of the chartreuse and the pale peach.

How have you tried to wear this look?

Guest Post- Glitter and Grace

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Hi ladies! I'm Sara from Glitter and Grace and I'm here to help babysit Anna's blog while she's in fabulous Palm Desert! (one of my favorite places on earth - actually trying to think up ways as to how I get out there to say hi to her!)

Anyways, there are a few "fashion guidelines" I try to loosely live by and one of them is "There is Never an Excuse to Not Look Cute and Put Together." Before you freak out, let me explain. 1. Of course I don't always follow this. Trust me, many a day I go to the store literally praying I don't run into someone I know because of how long it's been since I've showered. And 2., I don't mean like, full makeup, high heels, and super trendy outfit cute (though I do really admire the girls who are able to pull that off). I just mean you don't have to forsake fun and flattering outfits just because you don't want to get all dolled up.

As someone who doesn't go into an office everyday, most of my outfits end up gravitating towards the same genre: sporty and comfortable. But that doesn't mean I have an excuse to dress all frumpy and gross! Instead, I lean towards purchases that are practical, cute, and cheap to get me from "power walk mode" to "errand running mode" to even "meet up with friends for lunch or shopping mode" while still feeling somewhat decent and put together.

Here are my go-to's for that: Cute and well-fitting workout pants (I swear by Nike, but would own so much Lululemon if I could afford it), striped tops and hoodies from Forever 21, good running shoes, cute T's, and to complete my look and still keep it low maintenance: tinted moisturizer, mascara, big sunglasses, and hair up! I pulled a few pieces I love, and I hope it gives you some ideas next time you don't feel like "dressing up" but also don't feel like giving up on looking cute too :)

Enjoy and I'd love for you to stop over and say hi to my blog if you get the chance!

i have recently become consumed with all things taxidermy. i love the way that these faux pieces look on the wall. they give a daring and unique feel to any room. i do have to say that by far, my favorite pieces are the resin moose taxidermy ones. so i have conjured up these pictures of some gorgeous pieces of faux taxidermy. enjoy!

While I'm gone, please enjoy some guest posts from some very special people !

Canvas DIY project

For me and boyfriend's one year anniversary I decided to make him a canvas wall hanging for his room. I chose a saying that reminded me of him and one that would be inspirational for him to see every day. We always talk about how giving each other grace is one of the most important aspects of our relationship and how we can give each other that grace because it was first given to us by Jesus. It's such a great reminder to us that he gives us more grace than we could ever give, which inspires us to thank him for his grace and be pushed to always give more.

Here is how I made his canvas...
It was super easy and turned out great! I will definitely do this again.

What you need:
Readjustable vinyl letters
Sponge brush
X-Acto knife

1. Wipe down canvas, take a ruler and pencil in lines. Cut out vinyl letters and place them where you want them to be on the canvas.

 2. Rip off the vinyl stickers and place them on the canvas.
 3. Take the sponge brush and paint over the entire canvas. Make sure that the corners and curves of each letter are saturated in the paint.
 4. Before the paint is completely dry (I would say probably 90% dry), use the X-Acto knife to peel each of the letters off. Leave canvas out to dry for a few more minutes, and DONE!

The best is yet to come

I am about to enter into my final term of college. Most of my friends are absolutely dreading this last term and have been posting all over facebook how they never want to grow up and how they want to stay in college forever. Although I love and respect my friends, I think they are crazy.

I have had a wonderful four years of college. I have met amazing friends, learned so much about myself, found a major that fits my personality and career goals, and I met the love of my life. I would not trade these last four years at the U of O for anything.

But its time to move on. Thinking about the future doesn't scare me, it excites me. I look forward to the next year and what's to come. My future is bright and I am eager to start pursuing my dreams!

Long skirts.
I just bought a black maxi skirt for my long legs and I am so excited to start wearing it! Here are some images that inspired me to embrace the long skirt trend.

Blog crush

Thursday, March 15, 2012

It's been awhile since I've been hit with a blog crush this hard.
Do any of you look at Julia's blog, GalMeetsGlam?
She has impeccable style, amazing hair (girl, how do you get those perfect little baby hairs out of your bun!? Teach me your ways), and she mixes and matches lots of different pieces which inspire me on the regular. If you haven't already, you need to check this girl out!

I truly apologize

For those of you who follow my pin boards. Stud overload.
I actually bought some studs at a craft store and am planning on spicing up an old pair of jeans.
Pictures to follow!
