Teaming Up To Talk About: Hair

Thursday, November 20, 2014

Hi Friends! I had the opportunity to link up with some awesome ladies to talk about hair. I wanted to share my portion of it, but you can read the full story over at Auj Poj.

What are some of your favorite/staple hair products?

I started using Redkin All Soft shampoo and conditioner and I absolutely love it. My hairstylist recommended it to me because my hair was become more and more dry as I continue to use hot tools on it like my curling iron. After the shower, if I know I am going to wear my hair natural the next day I put some moroccan oil on it for moisturizer, but if I know I am going to curl my hair I use Kerastase Nector Thermique for thermal protection.
I use my Hana hair dryer (but I have to admit I dont blow dry my hair unless I absolutely have to) and a remmington 1″ curling wand that I have had for almost 4 years and LOVE (target, baby!).
And my most favorite hair product is the Osis Dust In matte powder. I sprinkle some of this in the creases of my hair when I tease it for volume and once ive curled my hair to keep the bounce and fullness (it also keeps your hair style in place longer than hair spray!).

How do you deal with frizzy and damaged hair?

Definitely taking breaks from hot tools and add moisture whenever possible. I started using Moroccon oil a few months ago and can already see a huge difference. I have also tried coconut oil masks, which I think work but your hair will be way too oily for a few days … you can find tons of recipes on Pinterest.

How do you enhance or tame down your curls? What do you use?

I am on the enhance side of this questions and I swear by Osis Dust In. I used nearly half the bottle on the bridesmaids at Audrey’s wedding !

What have you tried that just doesn’t vibe…

Traditional curling irons. I know that sounds strange but my curls only set and stay when I curl with a wand.

What is your go-to hair style and why?

I am a one trick pony, I can curl and curl only. So my go to hair style is curling my hair away from my face with my Remmington 1″ wand, tease and spray!

Any other secrets you want to share?

Be kind to your hair! I was blessed with good strong hair and just recently have been realizing my need to treat it better. After coloring, curling, straightening and teasing my ends have been getting frayed and my hair as a whole has been much more dry. My hairstylist has pressed into me to take better care and give back what you take away from it.

Gasp! A Blog Post

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Whoops, forgot I had a blog for a sec.

But guys, I'M TRYING. I miss this blog and its been on my heart a lot more lately. With some encouraging words from friends and a few ideas on my brain, I'm going to start this up again.

This time around, I think I'm going to try a few more lifestyle posts, a little short essay writing and potentially some more outfit posts (why are those the hardest!?).

Thanks for your patience and thanks to all my friends who keep asking me about it. You are my blog accountability.

THIS

was what I needed.

A nice good ole fashion stay in your PJS, clean the whole house, re evaluate your closet ( re: Organize by Olivia), eat ice cream, make s'mores in the fireplace, snuggle with your husband, snuggle with your nephews, crunch around in the snow, attempt to watch movies all before The Oscars kind of weekend.

Thank you Jesus.

Being Bold

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

Boldness is something that has been on my heart lately. To me, boldness is setting aside any fears or worries of what others may think of you, and to step out in faith. Although I don't consider myself a shy or timid person (ha!), I have realized lately how I tend to play it safe in order to refrain from "rocking the boat" so to say. I desire to have a bold faith that not only benefits those around me, but that also requires a deep sense of trust in the Lord to step out in my boldness.

On a separate but not completely unrelated topic, I have also been thinking of being more bold in my style. I so often see pieces of clothing styled in a new and different way and want to replicate but feel timid and wonder if people will judge me. In the same way, I want to try new trends or am drawn to a particular item but think "eh, better stick with the usual".

I have been wanting to wear more hats and I have been in the market for a floppy-but not too floppy- black hat. When out with my sissy pants this past weekend we found the perfect one at Mojave (@shopmojave). I wore it around the store REALLY wanting to buy it but doubted myself. After some validating words from the stylish sales girl and some extra push from my sister, I decided to step out of the ordinary and get it. On the ride home I had a freeing thought: who CARES if anyone doesn't like my style, its MINE and I get to choose to be whoever I want to be. So there you have it, wearin' the hat, don't care who cares, ain't nobody got time for that.
